This week in science- caroline
This week in science has been really fun! We are doing projects on our spheres and we can do what ever we want to do with them we can make a video, song, google Earth etc. Our group decided to do a video on the lithosphere and focus on EARTHQUAKES!! So we did a few things in our video we interviewed a few teachers, gave an example, and explained how earthquakes are formed. It was really fun and what was ironic was there was an EARTHQUAKE last night!

The final Blog Post
Final Post
By Julia Ventura
Wow it has been an amazing science year! I can't believe how fast it has gone by it felt like just yesterday that we were starting Earth Science! I have learned so much about the Earth this year! Like before this year I didn't now what converging, diverging and transform boundries were! I think that the project we are doing this week is really creative and fun! We get to use our imagination and try to make learning fun for next years and this years students! There have so many things this year that have impacted the earth. Some examples are the earthquake in Haiti, the volcano in Iceland, and of course the disaster that is still happening.......... the oil spill. This oil disaster has been happening for a little under 2 months and will effect our earth for a least 20 years! I hop they stop the oil soon!
Thank you to Mrs Baumgardner for being such a great teacher and teaching us so many wonderful things about our planet! Have a great summer everybody!

this week update
This week has been really cool! We are learning about renewable and unrenewable resources. On Monday and Thursday we worked in an google Earth project. We also get to write a letter to the new 6th graders. I am really excited I have already written down my draft and found my article. I made a lot of connections throughout the letter and i'm really happy about it. Also we startes working on our islands during class I finally finshed my field guide and are on to research. Tommorow is our last science day of the week I wonder what were doing. Can't wait to find out!

This Week in Science by Julia
This week in science was fun and creative! We are working on our Islands! We built them out of clay and paint! It was so fun! Our Island was Madagascar. We learned a lot about our Island, like the organisms, the culture, the geography, and the people. The animal I chose to study was the Brooksia Chameleon. I learned a lot about the Chameleon, like did you know that they change their color to express their mood to other chameleons, and they are only 30mm long! I really enjoyed learning about Madagascar! Have a great week!
News update
This week has been one of my favorite weeks in science yet except for the hot air balloons week that was my favorite. We are all working on our islands! Our groups island is Madagascar. We have to have a field guide a island pop up and a borchure. We just finished our Island and it looks great! I'm really excited about this project. For my field guide my animal is the ring tailed lemur I love them. I am really happy we are doing this project and can't wait to see what's next!
Ians News
Well the satellite Hubble turn 20! They wont give the date so I don't know. But they did give us some pictures taken by Hubble. Here is the link to the pictures http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/slideshow/photos-final-frontier-1884336 I hope you enjoy those AMASSING pictures. As Julie has already said there is an oil spill in the gulf of Mexico Kemp Turtle is in a lot of trouble because of this oil spill. A man planed a terrorist attack on New York town square. He planted a bomb on his car and tried to run it in to town square. The old man who robed the Bank of America robed another bank. This time with no air tank. I hope you like this new episode of Ian's News
Islanders
This week has been very fun and rather easy. On Monday we build our island (Madagascar) out of the mix Mrs.B provided for us. We thought it was easy and yesterday we painted our island and our animals. I made the fossa and then painted it. Today we only had to write the scale and draw a compass rose. Also today we had a speaker come to our classroom and talk to us about turtles. We learned about the seven types of turtles. Did you know that they are all indangered? It is very sad what is happening and I wish them luck in the future! I liked the hands on lessons this week and I hope we'll have more of them in later in the year.

oil spill gulf of mexico 2010
This Week in Science By Julia Ventura
This week in science was very fun on Monday we had challenge that we would be working on through out the week. We were assigned a bird and had to be experts on it. Our group got the Brown pelican and if you look at Beau's blog post you will see a very "gripping" video of the Brown Pelican. Okay so it may not be the most interesting video ever but it does give you and idea of what we are studying. Our group got two options of what to pick for this challenge so we picked the "compose it" choice which means we had to write an original song about our bird. It was fun and creative. We also got our biosphere tests back in the second session which I hope was good news for everybody.
The other day I saw on the news that there was a huge oil explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. I can't imagine how many species have been affected by the oil spill. Luckily people our taking action to clean this up, but it is really sad how one thing can mess up a whole ecosystem. You might thinking that there is nothing you can do to solve this problem but there is. Some of you have probably heard of the soap call Dawn. For those of you who have not it is able to clean animals off who have been effected by an oil spill and for every bottle you buy they clean an animal off. Ask your parents about buying Dawn soap. You can make a difference!
I think this week in science has been very fun and at times confusing. For our bird we got the Brown Pelican. This bird can migrate down to Mexico and then can go north to southern California after they hatch their eggs. You can see this bird around here most likely by the bay. This is a video about the awesome brown pelican: brown pelican rocks! This week in science we worked on the cd cover and the song. Julia and Caroline wrote the song and I made the cd cover. I think our project is very good and will hopefully get a good grade! My project was pretty easy and I think it could have been more chalenging if we had to make a cd case and download the song on a cd. I think that the 6th graders would really enjoy that next year. Overall I love making projects that last over a whole week! I liked it very much!

Weekly reveiw
This week in science we got to learn about a national park of our choice. The first day we came in after the weekend someone told me that Alcatraz was a national park. I wished I knew that before! Our team did the Grand Canyon as our national park. We learned a lot about the invasive and native animals in the Grand Canyon. Julia took charge and assigned the teams parts. I had the honor to do the native animal poster. I did some research and chose the coyote to do my poster on. I typed the description and the boatload of names it has. I printed out a picture and whala! It was finished. I thought that this project was fun and also very informational. Today I came into science not knowing what to expect. When I got the test I was overjoyed to find out that everything on the test I studied. For the last question I made the food pyramid but I put animals on there that wouldn't eat each other. :( I think that i will still get at least a 90%. But if I don't I have a 100% coupon to fall back on but I hope I don't have to use it. Overall I think this week was one of the best weeks this whole year! I can't wait until next week!

This week in science we only had two sessions because of Science Discovery Day, but we learned a lot and had fun! We started off the week getting into our biosphere unit, we took notes on the food chain and carnivores (meat eaters), Omnivores (plant and meat eaters), Herbivores (Plant eaters only), and decomposers. In the second session we watched a powerpoint on biodiversity and took notes on biodiversity!
Science Discovery Day was really fun! I think my favorite class was the Super science class in Mrs. Stine's room. I liked it because we got to learn all about electricity an body heat. I had a great time and i hope you did too! Have a great spring break and a Happy Easter! See you after the break!

Goals
I like session 3 this week. I think that we could have made a competition out of it though. We could have had our sheet and we would look through the book to find the awnsers. We basicly didn't have to do any work and that is not helping our grade. I dropped from a 4 to a 3 last trimester. I want to work harder this trimester and get my grade back up to a 4. I am going to do that by doing any extra credit possible and always go above and beyond. I think that my team is going to win blog spot of the week at least once this trimester and hopefully be in the running for the championship of the grade. Those our my goals for this trimester! GO TELETUBBIES!

Ian's News
Well tomorrow is my birthday. I'm turning 12! Anyways back to Ian's new. Dancing wit the stars started tonight.Three days before Christmas, a man in a Santa suit robbed a bank in Nashville. The FBI was investigating the case, but it was still unsolved ... until Wednesday. That's because on St. Patrick's Day, the same guy did the exact same thing. Except this time, he was dressed as... you guessed it... a LEPRECHAUN. According to police, 20-year-old David Cotton is the man responsible for both robberies. Both he and his getaway driver... a 20-year-old college student named Jonathan Skinner ... were KILLED in a shootout with police while leaving the bank. Officials say there are two pieces of evidence linking David to the Christmas robbery:
#1.) When they searched his house, they found a Santa costume.
#1.) Porsche
#1.) When they searched his house, they found a Santa costume.
#2.) And David made similar comments to the tellers during each of the robberies.
One of the most entertaining websites on the Internet right now is ChatRoulette.com. It randomly pairs up webcam users with strangers around the world, and the site's just filled with freaks. The website showed a guy in a cheetah. 89% of Chat Roulette users are men, and about 70% of them are between the ages of 20 and 40. That means 11% of Chat Roulette users are women. They tend to skew a little younger, with 23% under the age of 20, and 97% under the age of 40. 47% of Chat Roulette users are from the United States. After that, the country with the second-greatest showing on the site is France at 15%. The five MOST dependable cars on the market are:
#1.) Porsche
#2.) Lincoln
#3.) Buick
#4.) Lexus

I like the lab we are working on this week. I wasn't there on Friday so it's chalenging. But I am managing and working really hard on this lab. I personally think our group has helped each other and supported each other. We are working on the coral coast and I think it was a good choice because it is interesting to learn about it and it is very pretty there. I am working on erosion issues and solutions for those issues. I am very excited to learn about that. I am having a great time so far! GO TELETUBBIES!

Week 1 for the teletubies
Ian's News
For this new team I will start a news cast by myself. I will make sure you all now the current events.
Eclipse is coming out this Summer. You can see an official trailer. Police arrest firefighter for child neglect. that sounds really sad. Kids are huffing markers, spray paint, glue, and air conditioning and they are now dying because of this, and there age is 12, 11, and 10. An 11 year old girls body was found next to an air conditioner, a plastic bag and a screw driver. Her father is very upset and he doesn't want this to happen to anyone else's daughter or son.
This week in science with Julia:
Wow!! It has been such a crazy and exciting week! First of all on session one we worked on a erosion packet! In session two we got our new teams it was exciting and we have a wonderful team right now!! Then in in session two we had to really had to pull together for our first team challenge with our new teams!! I was so exciting and nerve racking it was a race against time and against our fellow teams. It required memory. It was sort of like the match the cards game! We did not get first place but we did get second, an extra 8 bonus points. We are very proud of our second place victory!!!! Finally, in session three we were faced with a new challenge! We are supposed to try and sell a house anywhere in the world on a coast line, but there is a catch the house has somme erosion problems so we have two find a way to fix the erosion problems along with some other things and when we have finished all the research we will put it on google earth! Our group chose Coral Coast, Fiji as our destination of choice. We can't wait for the things to come!! Good Luck to all the teams in their race for points!
